Simple 1-Step Campfire Potatoes (Print)

Foil-wrapped potatoes with herbs, cooked over campfire coals for an easy, outdoor vegetarian side.

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 4 large potatoes, washed and scrubbed
02 - 60 ml olive oil or melted butter
03 - 1 teaspoon salt
04 - 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper

→ Optional Seasonings

05 - Garlic powder, to taste
06 - Onion powder, to taste
07 - Paprika, to taste
08 - Chopped fresh herbs, to taste

# Steps:

01 - Cut the potatoes into quarters or large chunks.
02 - In a large bowl, toss the potato pieces with olive oil or melted butter, salt, black pepper, and any desired optional seasonings.
03 - Arrange the seasoned potatoes in the center of a large sheet of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Fold and seal the edges to create a tightly closed packet.
04 - Place the foil packet directly into the embers of a hot campfire. Cook for 20–30 minutes, turning the packet occasionally, until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
05 - Carefully remove the foil packet from the fire using tongs. Allow to cool briefly before opening. Serve hot.

# Notes:

01 - Cooking duration will vary depending on the intensity of the campfire embers.
02 - Handle the foil packet cautiously as it will be very hot when removing from the fire.
03 - For shorter campfire cooking, partially pre-cook the potatoes at home prior to your trip.
