Traditional Bavarian Beer Cheese Obatzda (Print)

Creamy Bavarian cheese blend with beer. Pair with pretzels for a festive, satisfying appetizer.

# Ingredients:

01 - 250 grams Camembert cheese
02 - 120 grams cream cheese
03 - 25 grams unsalted butter, softened
04 - 2 tablespoons finely chopped chives
05 - 2 tablespoons finely chopped red or sweet onion
06 - 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
07 - 80 millilitres German beer, or as needed

# Steps:

01 - In a mixing bowl, combine the Camembert and cream cheese. Mash together using a fork until blended to a rustic consistency.
02 - Add the softened unsalted butter to the cheeses and continue mashing until the mixture becomes creamy.
03 - Stir in the finely chopped onion and sweet paprika. Pour in approximately 1 tablespoon of German beer and mix thoroughly. Adjust consistency by gradually adding more beer as needed for a softer texture.
04 - Cover the mixture and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow flavours to develop.
05 - Let the dip stand at room temperature before serving. Stir well, garnish with fresh chives and a dusting of paprika. Serve accompanied by pretzels or your choice of bread.

# Notes:

01 - As a variation, substitute Camembert with Brie if desired.
02 - If omitting beer, use a splash of milk or non-alcoholic beer.
03 - Traditional additions include ground caraway seeds or cumin; grated radish adds a refreshing twist.
